Dear Grandma Smith, thanks for all the work you did to birth such a beautiful person (she happens to be my mom)!

Even though this picture was taken when my mom was young, she still looks like that little girl in so many ways!  That smile is still the one I see now - never letting the world's taxing challenges take their toll on her happiness and her ability to pursue and protect what she holds dear in life.

I'm incredibly lucky to have such a supportive mother who I'm able to look to as an example (especially as I've entered the realm of motherhood).  I love knowing that nothing will ever take away her passion and love for family, her continual journey to become more Christ-like, and her capacity to inspire her children.

So, Happy Birthday Mom

(and good luck blowing all your candles out,
you are a Grandma now, ya know)!

  2. I haven't been on your blog in over a month and then I see this! What a sweet, sweet thing for you to say, Jen. I have been enormously blessed to have you as a first born...we grew up with each other, didn't we? There are so many things that are 'highlights' in my life, but the best ones involve my children...and your dad;) Thank you for the best birthday present!
    I love you,
    Mom
